Provo Children's Book Festival
I've never done a signing or a book event at a library. This was really fun. I like hanging out with other authors, and because the organizers sent out "autograph books" for all the kids attending, they weren't afraid to come up and ask up questions and let us quiz them on favorite books, even if they hadn't spent any money.

One of the fun parts of the day was seeing who had huge lines of fans, and how those who didn't felt and reacted to this. I think it is natural to feel a twinge of envy. But I also was really pleased with how many people I got to see and the fact that there was no pressure to move them along and get to the next person, or to get rid of them to go to a speaking event.

Conversation at the end of the day:
AuthorA: I had a lot fans here, sure, but you should see AuthorM. She has so many fans she has to give out tickets to her events, and cut it off at a certain number.
AuthorB: I can't wait until that happens to me. All that money, all that fame. I'll be one happy camper.
AuthorA: I don't know. Have you thought about what it would like to have reviewers scrutinizing your work like that? To get garbage bags full of angry fan mails every day because you didn't write the last book the way they wanted? The stress of touring every day for a month on end?
AuthorB: Hmm. Never thought of it like that. Maybe I should be more happy with the success I have now.

Shouldn't we all?
